If you are new to grayscale coloring it can be a little intimidating but it is actually really fun and addictive! Grayscale pictures have a variety of shades of gray from black to white. These variations add shading to your pictures for you, helping to really make your finish project pop and look 3D.

How do you color with these shades of gray, you maybe asking. It is simple!

Here are some beginner steps you can take to making your coloring pages really shine.

1) You can chose one color and color over a whole area. The color will cover the shaded areas giving it a hue while still maintaining the different variations of shading. Super easy!

2) Similarly to step one, you can chose one color but apply more pressure on the dark grays/blacks in your picture, medium pressure on the medium grays, and apply light pressure to the light grays/white areas.

3) You can pick 3 different colors to match your shades in the picture. For example, if coloring a dress maybe you pick light pink for the light areas, darker pink or red for the medium areas, and burgundy for the dark areas. This can create some really stunning effects.

*Coloring tip: Coloring in a circular motion helps the colors to blend with the gray areas smoothly. You can also use blending stump pencils or other blending tools to blend colors together.

Colored pencils are the best to use when starting grayscale coloring due to their ability to blend, show the shading through the color, and work on fine details but feel free to try out other materials. Crayons are also another great choice. White and metallic gels pens are great for fine details and accents.

This book is best for dry mediums but if you would like to try wet mediums feel free to do so but keep in mind they may bleed. Adding a sheet of cardstock or some extra pieces of paper behind your picture can be used to protect your other pages.

Something for just about everyone. Great for nearly all ages!
